Let us know how we can better engage with YOU!

We want to know the best way to stay in touch with our community and hear more from you.

Following endorsement at yesterday’s Baw Baw Shire Council meeting, Council has just released its revised Draft Community Engagement Policy, which will be open for feedback until Monday 22 June.

Our Draft Community Engagement Policy is designed to bring more people into the conversation, and we want to know the best way to do that.

Baw Baw Shire Mayor Councillor Kate Wilson said this document would ensure that community members had a more active voice in Council’s decision making, and Council wanted to hear from the very people that this Policy would impact the most.

“Working in partnership with our community remains one of the highest priorities of this Council and this revised Policy sets out exactly how we think we can best do that.” Cr Wilson said.

“The Draft Policy demonstrates an organisation that understands the true purpose of community engagement and reinforces our promise to be transparent.”

The document, which is an update to an existing Policy, has been reviewed to ensure that Council is engaging with our community, including residents, business owners, volunteers and sporting club members, in a meaningful way and in a manner that provides them the opportunity to really tell us what they think.

Cr Wilson added that the Policy aims to strengthen relationships with community members.

“The purpose of putting this Policy out for community consultation is to see if we are hitting the mark, and find out from the people we represent, if there’s a better way that we could be reaching them,” the Mayor said.

“I also hope that by putting our Draft Community Engagement Policy out for feedback, we’re showing the community Council’s genuine desire and intention to get their feedback and continue to build trust in our decision-making processes,” Cr Wilson said.

“Council attends markets, shares engagement opportunities online and make great use of its digital platforms, but perhaps there’s other ways that we could better reach people, and we want to hear what these ideas are.”
