Volunteering

Volunteering provides opportunities for people to become involved in their community, to meet others and make a positive and valuable contribution.

Volunteering:

  • benefits both the community and the volunteer
  • promotes equality and human rights; respecting the dignity, rights and culture of others
  • is undertaken and freely chosen by a person without coercion
  • is unpaid community work
  • does not seek to replace paid workers but is a designated volunteer position only.

Service Volunteer Work
Meals on Wheels Meals on Wheels are distributed from Drouin, Warragul, Trafalgar and Neerim South. Volunteers deliver the meals between 11.00am and 12.30pm, five days per week. Volunteers work in pairs delivering meals, the driver is paid a small reimbursement for fuel expenses.
Community Shopping Bus Volunteer bus drivers and assistants pick up clients using the Baw Baw Home and Community Care community bus and transport them to shopping facilities enabling them to complete their shopping. Clients and volunteers then meet for lunch before returning home. This activity occurs on a regular basis.
Friendly Visiting Program Volunteers are matched with a client who is looking for some companionship. Visits may occur weekly, fortnightly or monthly depending on the availability of the volunteer and the wishes of the client. This is an opportunity to develop friendship with someone who shares similar values and interests.
Community Transport Volunteers assist clients to attend medical appointments locally, regionally or to Melbourne. Volunteer drivers will receive reimbursement towards their expenses.
Social Support Group Volunteers work with clients and staff in centre based activities and on outings which are held on a regular basis.
