Tony Gould, Niels Bijl. Kindred spirits. Two passionate performing artists operating in what so many see as two completely different musical worlds: jazz and classical. But is this classification a just one? Not according to these two musicians: for them it’s all about story-telling, about the quality of music, about embracing the music they play with decades of experience and artistic integrity. It has been a life-long dream of Tony Gould to connect both worlds, in a program in which classical masterpieces are played in a uniquely refreshing way, with an immediate response from some of Australia’s most refined jazz musicians. JS Bach, Fauré, Schubert, Satie, even Cole Porter and Astor Piazzolla will be rejuvenated by these openminded musicians, in line with how the composers originally saw their music: as just a story that needed to be told, the best way the composers knew at that point in time.
