The sporting pavilion at Dowton Park, Yarragon is currently undergoing a full rebuild to transform it into a modern facility for the community, complete with ‘all access’ and female-friendly infrastructure to make it suitable for its growing user base.

This project includes:

  • Demolition of the existing pavilion
  • Construction of the new pavilion, and new service connections for this new pavilion
  • New car parking and concrete pavements
  • Demolition of the old coaches’ box
  • The rebuild of a new timekeepers’ and coaches’ box, and installation of a new power feed to this box
  • Construction of a new switchboard cupboard, relocation of the existing switchboard, and an upgrade to the associated electrical wiring
  • Provision of new stairs and a DDA-compliant access ramp (including handrails and tactiles).

Project Background

The old pavilion was at the end of its life, with significant building defects, and was prioritised for development following the master plan process in 2019.

Regular meetings with the pavilion’s user groups were held during the plan and design process. The pavilion is home to the Yarragon Football Club, Yarragon Junior Football Club, Yarragon Netball Club and the Yarragon Cricket Club, who will be utilising portable change rooms in Dowton Park while the new pavilion is built.

Project Updates

September 2025

This project is making great progress, with several key milestones already achieved and more on the horizon. The construction of the separate Timekeeper's Room and Coaches’ Box is nearly complete, with just a few finishing touches required. For the main pavilion, the concrete slab has been poured, and both the structural steel and lightweight framing are now in place. Preparations are also underway for roof truss installation, which is scheduled to commence in late September or early October.

A successful site walkthrough was conducted in mid-September with some major stakeholders, giving them the opportunity to walk through the emerging structure and visualise the layout of each room. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with all parties expressing satisfaction with the quality and pace of the work. The next walkthrough is planned for shortly after the installation of plaster walls.

In terms of services, the electrical mains have now been connected to the upgraded power pillar, and water connection works are scheduled for completion soon.

Overall, the project remains on track and continues to generate strong enthusiasm.
