Bellbird Park Soccer Pitch

  • Project typeUpgrade
  • Project value$1.6 million
  • Project scheduleScheduled from October 2023 through to expected completion April 2024
  • Contractor nameA1 Civil Pty Ltd

Following the construction of the Bellbird Park Pavilion, the Senior Bellbird Park Soccer Pitch is set for redevelopment.

Works will see complete reconstruction and upgrade of the playing surface. Currently during winter, poor drainage and surface issues impact the ability to train across the whole surface, maintenance is challenging, and matches are at risk of being cancelled.

The new sand profile surface will increase the carrying capacity of the pitch year-round. It will improve playing and training conditions, improve safety and meet increasing demand for the sport of soccer, the growth of the Drouin Dragons Soccer Club and Drouin’s growing population.

The total project is valued at $1.6 million dollars, with the Victorian Government contributing $800,000 and Council contributing the $800,000 balance.

Works are expected to commence October 2023, with the project being completed by April 2024.

February 2024 Update

The existing playing surface has been removed and new drainage and irrigation lines installed. A layer of gravel totalling over 800 cubic metres has been laid, which contains the drainage and irrigation lines.

On top of the gravel, nearly 2,500 cubic metres of sand will form a 300mm thick base for the new playing surface. The sand layer will then be levelled and growth additives mixed in before turf is laid in early March.

Local impacts during construction

There may be increased construction traffic around the area. Temporary closure of footpath within Bellbird Park may be required during the construction phase.
