The YABBies (Youth Advocates for Baw Baw) are a group of young people who help shape and deliver youth-led events, activities and opportunities across Baw Baw Shire.
Supported by Council’s Amplify Program, The YABBies give young people the chance to build confidence, develop practical skills, connect with others and gain experience that looks great on a resume.
What do The YABBies do? The YABBies meet regularly throughout the year. As part of the program, members can build skills in:
event planning and coordination
promotion and design
working with performers, suppliers and Council staff
budgeting and decision-making
risk management and event preparation
teamwork and leadership
advocacy and youth participation
running events on the day
Looking for hands-on technical and creative skills too? Young people can also get involved in Studio Sessions (Echo Pod), a separate program that focuses on experimenting with professional sound and lighting equipment, building practical skills and exploring creative career pathways, in a safe and supportive and fun environment. No experience is necessary – just an interest and willingness to have go!
When Currently on a monthly basis, with additional participation in local events and tailored training opportunities throughout the year.
Who can join? You can get involved if you:
are aged 12 to 25
live, work, study or have strong links to Baw Baw Shire
can participate in events and training opportunities
