Temporary Closure of Hamp Lane, Drouin

To ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians, the section of Hamp Lane, Drouin, from Sinclair Street to the top of the Coles car park, has been closed due to damage caused by the significant amount of rainfall throughout 27 December 2023 - 4 January 2024

Council has been in close contact with neighbouring property and business owners following the closure and will remain in constant contact with them throughout the repair process.

The laneway will be closed for the foreseeable future while suitable repairs are arranged, including further assessments and the design and construction of a new road surface. It is expected this will take a minimum of eight weeks. 

Barriers have been installed at the Sinclair Street entrance to Hamp Lane to prevent access and further damage and ensure community safety. The impacted area can be viewed below.

Residents who use this entrance to access the Coles car park will need to use the southern entrance located on Hope Street.

What caused damage to the road?

Drouin experienced significant rainfall through 27 December 2023 and 4 January 2023, which caused excessive water flow outside of the drainage system. 

The excessive water has caused damage to the integrity of the surrounding pavement. 

When was the lane closed?

The top section of Hamp Lane was closed on 27 December 2023.

How long will the lane be closed for?

The section of Hamp Lane from Sinclair Street to the top of the Coles car park will be closed until repair works are completed. 

It is expected that the closure will be in place for a minimum of eight weeks while further assessments are made, repair works are scoped, designed and constructed. 

What repairs will be made?

Following further investigation and damage assessment, a scope of works for repairs will be developed. 

The repair works will include reconstruction and potential upgrade of the drainage pits and pipework and the complete reconstruction of the damaged road surface. 

Are businesses still able to use the lane?

Due to the safety concerns the damaged road surface poses, the road is closed to all traffic.

Can pedestrians use the lane as a walkway?
