Two bridges on Factory Road, Yarragon, have recently finished being rebuilt to much safer and suitable standards that meet the needs of their community.
Council is grateful for the $1.384M contribution to this project from the Australian Government’s Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program. The remaining $0.356M was funded by Council.
The old Contour Drain Bridge and Moe River Bridge on Factory Road, Yarragon were two timber decking and steel girder bridges that were load limited to just 10 tonnes as they were rapidly approaching end of life. They no longer complied with modern bridge design standards and have been replaced by two new concrete bridges with a much more robust SM1600 load capacity.
This project also included an upgrade to the road between the two bridges, an upgrade to the stormwater drainage, plus additional safety upgrades including the replacement of guardrails, installation of line markings, and new signage.
Ecological consultants were engaged to ensure all the fauna in the works area were well taken care of during the project, including the endangered species like Warragul Burrowing Crayfish and the Flinders Pygmy Perch which were salvaged during the project.
The full project scope included (but was not limited to):
