Bellbird Park is set to receive a new female friendly multi-purpose pavilion for users of the eastern section, including hockey, soccer, cricket, local schools, and the general community. Designed as a multi-purpose facility, the pavilion will also be equipped to host community events with commercial kitchen facilities. The project will also see construction of a new carpark including a drop off zone.

Originally, the project scope included the removal of both the soccer social rooms and the Rumble Pavilion, with the new pavilion replacing the existing structures. Council recently received a request from a community group to retain the Rumble Pavilion for the purposes of community use.

Council is now conducting further community consultation to better understand the community’s proposal for retaining the Rumble Pavilion.

Following the consultation period, a further report will be provided to Council for consideration to address the potential benefits and value for money considerations in the retention of the Rumble Pavilion.

This consultation opportunity closed at 5pm Monday 21 February 2022.

Current state of the Rumble Pavilion

The Rumble Pavilion is a single storey older style pavilion that consists of change rooms, a small office/meeting room, canteen and a large undercover area. The Rumble Pavilion has been used by the West Gippsland Hockey Association, who upon completion of the new pavilion, will relocate.

The pavilion has been considered as low value for retention due to its construction style, condition and given it has no insulation and limited other services.

What happens next?

Council Officers will consolidate comments and feedback and consider all submissions to assist in making further recommendations to Council. 

The report will be presented to Council in April 2022.
