Council is upgrading three dog parks across the Shire and to ensure the end result is perfect for every pooch, we invited community members to tell us what they would like to see included in the $370,000 project.

The dog parks at Bellbird Park, Drouin, Brooker Park, Warragul, and Hollydell Park, Trafalgar, were identified for improvement works as part of Council's 2022/23 Capital Works Program. The project aims to deliver a better user experience for dog park users and their four-legged friends.

Project scope

All three parks will receive improved drainage as part of the project to improve surface conditions during the winter months. Other improvements that have been identified for potential inclusion in the project are:

  • A continuation of gravel paths throughout the parks
  • Additional seating and shelter
  • Agility equipment and obstacles
  • More garden beds or multi-surfaced areas, such as sand or mulch
  • Separate areas for active and passive dogs

Providing your feedback

Community members were invited to share their thoughts on the project by completing a short survey before 5pm Monday, 31 October 2022.

What's involved in the consultation process?

Phase 1 – Initial consultation (closed)

Phase was all about getting the improvements to the dog parks right. We asked the community what features they would like to see incorporated into each park as well as which existing features they most enjoy.

Phase 2 – Draft Design (November/December 2022)

Following phase one, we'll gather all the information, feedback and suggestions we receive and incorporate it into the new designs.

Phase 3 – Construction Begins (early 2023)

Once the plans are finalised, the dog park improvements will begin at the three sites.

Due to nature of the works, particularly the drainage improvements, the project must be carried out during summer to minimise impacts to the sites.

What happens next?

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. Your thoughts and ideas are highly valued and will ultimately form part of Council’s decision making.

Council Officers will consolidate comments and feedback and consider all submissions to assist in making further recommendations to Council.
