Early Start Kindergarten

 

Early Start Kindergarten allows eligible 3 year old children to access a kinder program for up to 15 hours per week for free or low cost.

To be eligible for Early Start Kindergarten, your child must be:

  • aged three years by 30 April in the year that they attend kindergarten; and
  • be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander;  or
  • your family has had contact with Child Protection (or been referred by them to Child FIRST/Orange Door).

Two years of kindergarten provides an important start for children. Research shows that high quality, play based learning programs assists with the development of language, social interactions and self confidence. Kindergarten also helps to prepare children for success at school later in life.
