2022 -2029 Three-Year-Old Kinder Funding Roll Out

Kinder-3-year-old.jpg

Background

The Victorian Government has committed to providing three-year-old children access to a funded kindergarten program. This means that an extra year of play-based learning led by an Educator will be added to Victorian children’s education. The funded three-year-old Kindergarten program will become available in stages across the State with Baw Baw Shire beginning this roll out in 2022.

Funded three-year-old Kindergarten will be available in both sessional kindergarten services and long day care centres. Initially these sessions will only be funded for five hours and not for the full 15 hours of the program. The funding is allocated and controlled by the State Government. The roll out of hours and session timing is at the discretion of the Early Years Managers who run our Kindergarten programs in Baw Baw Shire.

What’s involved?

By 2029 the goal is for both the three and four-year-old programs design and funding to be the same.

Children born between 1 May 2018 and 30 April 2019 will be eligible for the first year’s roll out in 2022.  Children born between January and April in 2018 may also be eligible to attend if families decide to defer their child’s attendance until a year later than when they are first eligible. In limited circumstances, deferral may be available for children older than this (i.e. born between May and December).
