Baw Baw Shire Council’s Meals on Wheels team have been busy delivering more than just meals to some of our most vulnerable community members.

Over the last few days, packs of toilet paper have also been delivered to community members all across Baw Baw Shire.

The extra deliveries have been made possible by negotiations between Meals on Wheels Victoria and Woolworths, who kindly donated some pallets of toilet paper rolls for Council to distribute to meals on wheels clients.

The precious supplies come at a time when supermarket shelves are continually empty, putting many elderly and disabled community members at risk of not accessing basic necessities.

While still adhering to social distancing requirements, Council’s Meals on Wheels team have enjoyed bringing some unexpected cheer to many people with the surprise packages.

Last year, over 23,000 Meals on Wheels were delivered to 258 clients.

Quotes attributable to Mayor Cr Danny Goss

“We all know toilet paper is a hot commodity during these uncertain times, and it’s often our most vulnerable community members who struggle to get down to the supermarket and keep their cupboards stocked. It’s great to be able to provide some extra supplies along with vital meals to help get them by."

"We sincerely thank Meals on Wheels Victoria, Woolworths and our amazing Meals on Wheels team for going above and beyond the call of duty to make life a little easier for many people in our community.”
