Baw Baw Shire continues to be one of the fastest growing areas in Victoria.
With scenic views, rural town lifestyle, affordable housing and commutable distances to Melbourne, living in the shire is an attractive option for new residents which has in turn fuelled this growth.
As a result, Baw Baw Shire faces a variety of funding challenges that continue to require the support of State and Federal Governments.
While a large portion of our shire remains rural, the major towns along the rail and road corridor are becoming increasingly urbanised. Our continued projected growth will further change the demographics of the region, placing additional pressures on already strained infrastructure and services.
As we strive to meet the challenges of delivering infrastructure and services to rapidly growing towns, we are also conscious of protecting the unique characteristics and identities of our long-established rural communities. We have developed this document outlining Baw Baw’s advocacy priorities to include a mix of shorter and longer-term initiatives for investment.
We hope this helps our partners within the State and Federal Governments, local candidates for the next federal election, Government departments and service providers to better understand the critical needs our community faces and to ensure our service and infrastructure investment needs are supported now and into the future.
