Discover Baw Baw Shire
Baw Baw, it’s time to discover your own backyard. Our Shire is known for its diversity in tourism offerings and it’s all at your door step.
Baw Baw Shire is encouraging all of its residents to discover and experience all that our region has to offer through a ‘discover your own backyard’ campaign. The aim of the campaign is to create an awareness of the local attractions available to residents as well as promoting our region to visiting friends and relatives. If deciding where to spend your day with visiting friends and relatives involves a long car trip out of the Shire or navigating your way through an endless stream of public transport options to get to another region, it’s time to re-evaluate your options and discover your own backyard! 2013 Walhalla Visitor Guide
Hidden in a deep valley in the Victorian Alps, Walhalla Historic Township was a boom town of the 1880's that went bust in the early 1900's and was deserted for most of the 20th century. Today, Walhalla is home to less than 20 permanent residents but attracts nearly 100,000 visitors per year. Walhalla is a true step back in time to another era. For example on the 21st of December 1998, it became the last town to be connected to mains electricity in Victoria! For more information on what Walhalla has to offer, please click on the image below to download a copy of the newly released 2013 Walhalla Visitor Guide (new release).
Baw Baw Shire Council can provide access to hard copies of stocked tourism brochures. Please call the Economic Development and Tourism Unit on 5624 2411 to arrange a time to view the document at a Council office or to have a copy sent to you.
