Fact Sheet: Project Scope and New Facilities

Following an extensive 17 month redevelopment, Baw Baw Shire Council is excited to announce the reopening of the Warragul Leisure Centre (WLC), a project which totalled $14 million in upgrades.

What’s changed?

  • Extension to the existing pool hall for more aquatic space.
  • New leisure and splash pool with beach entry, animal themed water features and a mega soaker dumper bucket.
  • New program pool perfect for swimming lessons
  • New and larger warm water pool with accessible ramp.
  • Construction of a new 50m outdoor pool.
  • Refurbished 25m pool with accessible ramp.
  • Upgrades to wet and dry change facilities.
  • New storage areas.
  • Access upgrades to entrance and car parking.
  • All new concourses in the aquatic space.
  • Roof replacement for the pool hall and court stadium.
  • New Blackbutt timber sprung floor in court stadium.
  • Plant and landscaping upgrades.
  • New tiling to all pools.

The Centre still includes group fitness classes, crèche and café.

Centre Opening Date and New Hours

The redeveloped WLC will be open to the public from Monday 19 September 2016.

The new operating hours are:

  • Monday to Thursday: 6.00am - 8.30pm
  • Friday: 6.00am- 6.00pm (7.00pm close during summer season)
  • Saturday and Sunday: 8.00am- 5.00pm (7.00pm close during summer season)

The Centre will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, Good Friday, Easter Sunday and open from 1.00pm on Anzac Day.

Outdoor Pool

Works are continuing on the new 50m outdoor pool at the WLC, which will open for the commencement of the summer season from 1 December 2016. Due to the heating of the pool, it will be unique from other Baw Baw summer pools in that it will be open regardless of weather and enjoy an extended season until 30 April.

Group Fitness

A new group fitness timetable offering 40 dry and aqua classes a week will commence with the WLC opening. Download it from the Baw Baw Shire Council or YMCA websites.

Crèche

The crèche will resume weekday operations, catering for children from 8 weeks to 5 years old whilst you enjoy the centre’s new facilities. Bookings are essential.

Memberships

Take advantage of the new facilities at the WLC and improve your health and wellbeing by becoming a member.

All of the following memberships include:

  • 10 per cent discount on merchandise, WLC café and squash court hire at Bellbird Park
  • Access to all Baw Baw summer pools.

Full Centre

Includes all group fitness classes and access to all pools at the centre.

Aquatic

Includes access to all pools at the centre and all aquatic classes.

Pryme Mover (ages 55+)

Includes access to all pools at the centre, all aqua classes and Pryme Mover group fitness land based classes.

Existing members from 2015 will not pay a start-up fee.

Swimming Lessons

In addition to the Warragul Outdoor Pool, the following Baw Baw Shire summer pools are open from December to March:
