Australia Day Community Events

There are number of community events held across the Shire to celebrate Australia Day (Friday 26 January) in 2018.

Aberfeldy

12.00pm

Flag raising and national anthem, followed by a free family BBQ lunch with Aussie music at Cullen's Flat. BYO drinks and a salad or desert to share.

Cloverlea

12.00pm

Free BBQ lunch and a children’s movie screening at the Darnum/Ellinbank CFA building on Darnum-Allambee Road, corner of Cloverlea Road.

Darnum

5.30pm - 7.30pm

Flag raising and free sausage sizzle with live music and children’s activities. Located at the Darnum Recreation Reserve.

Drouin

7.30am Breakfast

Free breakfast including guest speaker Judy Farmer and entertainment by the Warragul Brass Ensemble. Anglican Parish Hall, 128 Princes Way. Bookings essential, RSVP by 20 January by calling Council on 5624 2411 or visiting one of Council’s Customer Service Centres.

4.00pm - 8.30pm

Concert by the Stump Jump Band, jumping castle (4.00pm), games, small animal farm and more (5.00pm). Free family BBQ (6.00pm) Civic Park, Drouin.

Hill End

6.00pm

Celebrate with a flag raising and national anthem followed by a free family BBQ including novelty games and competitions held at the H.E.C.I (Old Hill End School) starting at 5.30pm. Dinner will be followed by THE TRIVIA QUIZ with Councillor Michael Leaney BYO drinks.

6.00pm

Join in a flag raising and national anthem followed by a free family BBQ located at Kydd-Parke Reserve. Bring a salad to share.

Labertouche

10.00am

Celebrate Australia Day with a free family BBQ, cold drinks available to purchase. Bring the family for a fun-filled day. 440 Labertouche Road - corner of Labertouche and Forest Road.

Longwarry

11.00am - 2.00pm

Free family BBQ including sausage sizzle, drinks, lollies, icy poles, tea, coffee and scones at Bennett Street Park. The day will include CFA Open Day, vintage car display, flag raising at noon, children's games, activities and jumping castle, poems and quizzes, free plant potting activities for children, Aussie music.

6.00pm

Free family BBQ with salads and Aussie sweets including tea, coffee and soft drinks. The evening will also include competitions and Aussie music. Test your balance skills in the Egg and Spoon races, or enter a family team in Tunnelball. Neerim South Skatepark BBQ area, Main Road Neerim South.

Celebrate Australia Day with the YMCA and enjoy a free family BBQ and refreshments at the picnic area at the Rawson Indoor Pool, Knotts Siding Road.

6.00pm

Flag raising ceremony and national anthem followed by a free family BBQ dinner. BYO everything except meat. Tetoora Road Community Centre, 2575 Korumburra-Warragul Road.

Trafalgar

8.00am Breakfast

The annual Trafalgar breakfast is running again at the Trafalgar Public Hall, 34 Contingent Street. This event is free with no bookings necessary. Contact: David Lyons 0409 015 662

Warragul

10.30am

Join in a flag raising ceremony lead by the Scouts and Girl Guides, including a special performance by the Warragul Municipal Band, followed by a Citizenship Ceremony hosted by the Mayor in Civic Park.

11.30am - 2.00pm

Following the morning ceremonies, there will be a free community BBQ held in Civic Park. Vegetarian options, fruit and drinks will be available.

Yarragon

8.30am

Celebrate Australia day with a bacon & egg breakfast & some lamingtons. There will be a flag raising ceremony in Dowton Park, guest speakers and music.
