Drainage Strategies

Drouin and Longwarry

Baw Baw Shire Council is taking action to plan for future stormwater drainage requirements and has completed the drainage strategies for Drouin and Longwarry.

In planning for the future growth of the Shire, drainage strategies are being formulated as part of the Shaping the Future program to ensure that appropriate drainage infrastructure is constructed in future developments.

The strategies also review the efficiency of the existing drainage infrastructure and recommend options to minimise flooding in towns. One of the recommendations of the strategies is to work with Melbourne Water to introduce a formal maintenance program for major drainage channels and for action plans to improve existing drainage infrastructure.

Yarragon

The Yarragon Drainage Review was undertaken as part of the Shaping The Future Program to review the efficiency of the existing drainage system in Yarragon. It is a stage 1 review and recommends measures that can be taken to reduce the frequency of flooding in Yarragon and the Review was adopted by Council on 9 November 2011. Trafalgar

Council in its meeting on 12 December 2012 approved funding for completion of priority drainage works in Trafalgar.

The proposed works, along with timing, are:

• Completion of $30,000 in immediate drainage improvements along Contour Drain - works scheduled to start on 25 March 2013.
• Engineering Survey of existing drainage assets in Trafalgar to be completed by June 2013.
• Community invitation to comment on the intended scope of subsequent design work and drainage strategy development  by September 2013.
• Community invitation to comment on the outcomes of design work completed by April 2014.
• Completion of Drainage strategy by June 2014.

Engineering survey works will include survey of all existing drainage assets within the township of Trafalgar. Based on survey information, further works will be undertaken to complete drainage strategy. The outcome of the study will assist in formulating a works program to improve the existing drainage infrastructure, as well as in future planning for population growth within Trafalgar.
