Ranger Patrol

Animals

Council officers undertake door-knocks throughout the shire to check dog and cat registrations, as well as permit checks. Officers will be in uniform and will be carrying Council identification.

Ranger Checks

Rangers also check the number of animals housed on properties. If more than two dogs and four cats are found, a permit application will be sent to the owners.

Other Local Laws Checks

Council officers also conduct patrols/inspections for unsightly premises, rubbish dumping, burning off, asset protection, building sites, recreational vehicles, overhanging branches, domestic animals business checks, dog pick ups, trespassing livestock, camping and caravans in a public place, and school crossing duties when required.

Wandering Livestock

Council officers often deal with wandering livestock, and attempt to secure the animal/s in a nearby property.

Officers may have the animals impounded. The impounded animals will be placed in the Drouin pound located in Settlement Road. All impounded animals are listed on this website.

Please note:

  • Owners of wandering livestock may be issued with fines and will incur impoundment costs.
  • Any livestock not claimed or returned to the owner may be sold at public auction.

For any enquiries regarding impounded livestock, phone the Community Compliance department on 5624 2411.

Baw Baw Shire Council can provide access to hard copies of the Animal Registration Form 2012 document. Please call Community Compliance Unit on 5624 2411 to arrange a time to view the document at a Council office or to have a copy sent to you.
