Lost and Found Animals Services
The Council maintains a lost animal register to help owners find their pets and ensure their prompt return.
Lost Animals Not Listed on the Register
The Council keeps an updated list of all found pets and livestock. Council officers will contact you if a pet matching the provided description is in the pound. Please notify the Council if your pet or livestock has returned home and it will be removed from the list.
Found Pets
If you find a stray dog, Council officers can arrange its collection. Council officers will scan animals for a microchip and, if found, can contact the owners to collect their pets.
If you find a stray cat, please collect a cat cage from one the Council's Customer Service Centre's. Once the cat is caught, please return the cat and cage the Council offices.
Alternatively, animals can be taken to your local vet to have them scanned for a microchip.
Pet owners should place current registration tags on their pet’s collar to enable a better chance of returning your pet quickly.
If Council officers pick up your pet and are unable to contact you, your pet will be placed in the Council pound at a cost to the owner.
Baw Baw Shire Council can provide access to hard copies of the Animal Registration Form 2013 document. Please call Community Compliance Unit on 5624 2411 to arrange a time to view the document at a Council office or to have a copy sent to you.
