Plans in Motion for Major Road Upgrades in Labertouche

Published on 10 November 2017

Sections of Labertouche North Road and Labertouche Road are set to receive a $1.6 million upgrade with works planned to start on the ground in early 2018.

The two roads have been identified as key road priority projects to be jointly funded through Council’s 2017/18 Capital Works budget and contributions from the Victorian Government.

The Victorian Government has contributed $581,935 towards the Labertouche North Road upgrade from the Local Roads to Market Program, awarded to Council in April 2017. The Labertouche Road safety improvement works are also being funded by $180,000 contribution from the Victorian Government’s Blackspot Program.

Mayor of Baw Baw Shire Councillor Joe Gauci said the planned works will deliver safer and more user-friendly roads for the Labertouche community.

“The condition of these two roads has deteriorated in recent years, resulting in excessive dust and corrugations in the summer months and deep potholes and flooding in the winter”, said the Mayor.

“This upgrade project will see vital safety works to seal and widen these roads helping to eliminate dust and prevent the road becoming muddy and slippery in wet conditions.

“As a Council, we are committed to improving local roads across all corners of our Shire.”

Labertouche North Road

Labertouche North Road will have the final 7 kilometres of road upgraded to a sealed road standard and will include works to improve road safety.

Works on replacing major culverts and vegetation removal are planned to commence over the coming weeks and will be completed by late December 2017 in preparation for the road works.

The contract for the road works, including sealing, is expected to be awarded in December with works commencing in January 2018.

Council anticipates the works to take 18 weeks to complete, however it is likely that the road improvement works will be completed in stages to limit the overall disruption to road users.

Labertouche Road

Safety improvement works are scheduled for a section of Labertouche Road between the Tarago River and Jacksons Track. The road will be widened, with a small section reconstructed to extend the life of the road.

It is anticipated that these works will be completed over an 8-week period starting in January 2018.

Both roads will remain open throughout the works; however short delays may be experienced during working hours.

A community information session will be held on Tuesday 21 November at 7:30pm at the Labertouche Hall where details of the projects can be discussed and questions can be answered.
