Together with GippsTAFE in Warragul, Baw Baw Shire Council offered accredited HIA GreenSmart training at subsidised prices for trade professionals in the Shire. As part of the project, Council and GippsTAFE also ran free community information sessions about renewable energy, solar passive design and recycling and composting.

GreenPlumber Training

Plumbers from around the Shire were able to take part in free training to get updated in sustainable developments in the industry such as solar hot water and water saving devices.

Clean Up Australia Day

Each year Council runs a Clean Up Australia Day event and encourages and supports other groups in running clean ups in their area. Lots of rubbish is picked up by volunteers from our parks, gardens and waterways. Thanks everyone!

World Environment Day

Each year community groups and Council get together to celebrate international World Environment Day. In 2010 we celebrated with the Warragul & District Landcare Group by giving away free trees for everyone who donated an old mobile phone for recycling.

The Warragul & District Landcare Group also worked hard on the day planting new seedlings along Hazel Creek in Warragul.

Community Presentations

Every year the Environment Team visit and present to a wide range of community groups about sustainable living. Some of the groups we talk to include: Landcare Groups, Baw Baw Sustainability Network, Frock Up, primary and high school groups, cubs and scouts, regional greenhouse alliances and other government organisations.

If you'd like us to present to one of your groups or meetings we'd be delighted. For more information contact the Environment Officer on 5624 2411.
