Finding Business Grants

There is a lot of mythology about grants for business. In most cases there are not grants to help you start a small business. However, there are some exceptions. Job seekers who are long term unemployed and interested in starting and running a small business may be able to get practical small business training, business mentoring and financial assistance through the Australian Government’s New Enterprise Incentive Scheme (NEIS).

Many grants have strict eligibility criteria and these need to be understood before taking the time to apply. If a website identifies an officer to talk to about a grant, it is a good idea to make contact to discuss an application before proceeding.

The Victorian Government has a grant finder system on their website.

There are a number of private websites that will also help you find and procure business grants. Be aware that many private grant search websites will require you to enter into a commercial arrangement when searching and applying for grants on your behalf. Caution should be exercised regarding the bona-fides and confidentiality of commercial grant advisor sites.
