Building Department Overview

The Building Department is predominantly responsible for the delivery of statutory building functions within Baw Baw Shire which essentially comprises the administration of the Building Act 1993 and its associated regulations. 

Council’s Municipal Building Surveyor co-ordinates the department and manages these responsibilities by exercising various prescribed and delegated statutory powers that apply to proposed and existing buildings.

The department comprises a small group of staff with a variety of skills and background experiences.  Collectively they manage approximately 12 program areas and these programs all share in common a clear objective to protect the life, safety and health of all persons using buildings, land or places within the municipality.
