News>Baw Baw Shire residents embrace renewable energy
| Baw Baw Shire residents have embraced renewable energy with Council’s rebate for solar hot water and solar panels being so popular it has been over-subscribed just four months into this financial year.
So far this year, over 50 residents have installed solar PV panels on their houses to produce electricity and over 400 residents have installed solar hot water and heat pumps.
Mayor Cr Ruth McGowan said “We’re thrilled that Baw Baw Shire residents have embraced solar technology. Our rebate, as well as those from state and federal governments, have supported our community in moving towards a more sustainable environment/using renewable energy….”
The funding available for the solar hot water and solar panel is over-subscribed, but Council will honour all applications for solar hot water and solar panels received before 28 October 2009.
Cr McGowan said the response from the community in taking up the solar rebates has been incredible. “Environmental sustainability is becoming a mainstay in our Shire and we’re very pleased that renewable energy is being embraced as it’s a great way to save on electricity bills and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”
Council’s other rebates, including water efficient washing machines, rainwater tanks, compost bins/worm farms and pool covers are still available. These too are very popular with the rebates likely to end before the end of the year.
