Citizenship in Baw Baw Shire
On Thursday 25 June Baw Baw Shire Council held a citizenship ceremony for 6 new Australian citizens. Deputy Mayor Councillor Adam Tyson performed the ceremony with Councillors Tricia Jones, David Balfour and John Durrant along with friends and family of the candidates watching on.
BEAR Program workshops
The Business Expansion and Retention (BEAR) Program is underway in Drouin and Yarragon. Feedback from local businesses and community members has been vey positive.
Transport Connections in Neerim South and Noojee
As part of the Transport Connections Project in Baw Baw Shire, Council Project Officer Ron Lambert has hosted community meetings in the Neerim and district over the past 2 months.
Jana Living receive Building Management Award
Allan Bevan, Baw Baw Shire Council Asset Protection Officer has congratulated Davin George, Manger of Jana Living Warragul on the management standard, presentation and cleanliness of their building sites.
Baw Baw Shire receives Cities for Climate Protection Milestone 5 award
ICLEI Oceania, in conjunction with the Department of Sustainability and Environment organised an event on 28 May 2009 at Bendigo to recognise the achievements of Victorian rural councils who have participated in the Cities for Climate Protection (CCP) Victoria program over the past seven years. The event was attended by the Victorian Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Hon Gavin Jennings who awarded Councils for their recent achievements in tackling the challenges of climate change.
Free advice offered to commercial farmers impacted by the recent bushfires
Commercial farmers impacted by the bushfires will receive free one-on-one advice from local agronomists to help with pasture recovery, feed management and budgeting.
Load Limits on bridges
Council is responsible for the maintenance of 59 road bridges. Many of these road bridges were built before 1960 when vehicle loads were significantly less than current day legal load limits.
Environmental initiatives at Lifestyle Warragul
Baw Baw Shire Council is impressed with the environmental initiatives that Lifestyle Warragul has implemented at their village. The new Lifestyle Warragul village for over 55’s is a village that offers a genuine option for those planning retirement, an interesting alternative to staying in the family home, or choosing a retirement village.
Mayor to open Tanjil Valley Art & Photography Show
Baw Baw Shire Council Mayor Cr Ruth McGowan will formally open the Tanjil Valley Art & Photography Show at the former Hill End School, Paynter’s Rd Hill End over the June long weekend.
